My savings depend on the stores around me so I use SouthernSavers.com for most of my shopping lists/coupon match ups. I begin my week on Wednesday because that is when Publix ads start/end. I use my coupon match ups to tell me what coupons I need and from which paper/to print out off the web. I tend not to buy multiple newspapers off the bat unless I see coupons I really use(SouthernSavers also keeps me up to date on coupon previews for the week) . You can also trade coupons at AFullCup.com Also if you have your favorite brands sign up for their newsletters and check their websites for the latest coupons. I stockpile like crazy. and usually the same thing goes on sale every 6-8 weeks so I buy enough to last me that long. It can be overwhelming at first to buy 20 boxes of cereal let alone finding a place to put it, but once you get into the habit of buying the non perishable items that way you will notice a huge savings every month. Also buy local and in season that will save you tons on your fresh produce. It's also nice to know where and how your food is produced. Get to know your local farmers and perhaps join a CSA if a market isn't nearby. Go early if you like to have best pick , but I tend to go near close for the best deals. You will be amazed at the amount of stuff you can buy at your local market. Mine has fresh meat and local breads, goat cheese, handmade soaps, jewelry, and more. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! You may see people who get $100 dollars worth of groceries for $10 .. well it can and does happen, but you have to have your coupon stash built up, trade coupons, and work really hard to get to that point. So don't give up. Even if you saved just $20 a trip.. that is still $20 that you can spend/save elsewhere. For clothes and other household items I shop yard sales, thrift stores, and consignment stores. I also buy things off season at end of the year clearances. For my kids there are kids markets all over the country every season devoted to children's items. My rule of thumb is nothing over $5 because you can find new items for that cheap on clearance. I shop deal of the day type websites I have found awesome deals on anything from Ipods to organic onsies. Another way I save money is bartering and making my own goods. I like to sew/knit items and I can trade those for other things I need. Likewise instead of having to buy baby hats for baby showers I can make my own. You can find many websites with FSOT ( for sale of trade) forums. My favorites are diaperswappers.com and thebabywearer.com Basic rules of my thumb are Don't buy what you don't need If you do need/use it stock up when on sale Never pay full price for anything Always keep your eye out for a sale That's what I do in a nutshell. |
