Doesn't that hurt your back? - No, Actually it doesn't. With baby carriers the fabric/straps distribute the weight more evenly than carrying your baby with just your arms. Now carrying a 30lbs+ toddler does if you carry them longer than an hour but rarely does my 3 year old want to be carried around all day.

Isn't the baby squished? - Not if I am carrying her/him safely and in the correct positioning . My baby should feel almost like it is back in the womb close to me and hearing my heartbeat. If your baby is squirming or uncomfortable something must be wrong and you should adjust your carrier/ change positions. 

How much does a baby carrier cost? - It can range from as little as you want to as high as you are willing to go. Some of my favorite carriers are ones that I made myself.
